On the title track of their sophomore full-length, Leaper, the band push through the shimmering washes of reverb with their guy/girl harmonies, setting off a swoon with Kevin Shields-influenced guitar effects. A spoken-word part towards the end truly calls to mind Kim Gordon in “Kool Thing.” If you’re gonna wear your influences on your sleeve, might as well have the best influences.” – KEXP

VALLENS // TENNESSEE HAZE (VIDEO) VIA NOISEY

VALLENS “Tennessee Haze” video premiere on NOISEY ~ “Directed by fellow Torontonian Shelby Fenlon, the clip finds Vallens mastermind Robyn Phillips wandering through a forest and other nature zones. It’s appropriately soft-focus, and the off-kilter chord changes of the song add to the feeling of dreamy disorientation.

‘Tennessee Haze’ was one of the first Vallens songs recorded,” says Phillips, “The video is inspired by a lot of different things, but it’s emphasis is on the silver lining of the day-to-day, like the lyrics of the song.”
