“Toronto’s post-punk moonchildren – have a video for the latest single from their upcoming debut LP Kalaboogie. Waka Waka lulls you in with a couple characteristic minutes of ominous build before pulling the trigger on a surprisingly upbeat psych rhythm. But call the onscreen toll-free number, 1-844-666-hell, and they’re right back to script:
“Hello earth child. You have arrived at the altar of all things, or at least the teleportal that will help transport you,” via a secret code to download yet another piece of drifting ambience, Waka Binaural” ~ chartattack
“Disremember/Dismemberment is all about the rhythm and beat. What is revealed? Unveiled? While at the same moment, to indulge in rhythm, to feast on it, to isolate on insulate, while heading to new places that are brand new.” ~ Scion

Last winter, two monthly events took Toronto by storm, drawing sold out crowds and incredible artists. One was AGO First Thursdays, a monthly celebration of music, art, and culture that opened up the doors to Toronto’s most prestigious art museum to throngs of new audiences. The other was Long Winter, a monthly event at The Great Hall that featured the city’s most cutting-edge independent and underground musicians, artists, performers, and DJs. For one night only, on January 2, the two events merge for AGO First Thursdays: Long Winter Takeover.
The 5th floor of the AGO’s contemporary tower will turn into a music and installation space, featuring performances by Snowblink and Doomsquad w/ Not The Wind Not The Flag, and immersive installations by Paul Kneale, Tough Guy Mountain, and Anni Spadafora. Plus, a conversation with artists Shary Boyle, Vanessa Dunn, Petra Collins and Aminah Sheikh, presented by After School and Hazlitt.
Meanwhile, in Galleria Italia, DJ Stelmanis (Katie Stelmanis of Austra) will spin. In the Atrium, Dangling Participle, presented by Kate Young, Adam Terejko, Dan Thornhill, Robin Clason, Cell Memory, and Processor, will create an interactive video portrait installation with a live soundtrack. And Isla Craig and Henri Fabergé will offer pop-up performances around the galleries. Plus enjoy a Moroccan menu, cash bars around the Gallery and more!
A First Thursday like no other – don’t miss it!

DOOMSQUAD release a hypnotic new video for “Eternal Return” from their Artificial EP and their upcoming HDD full-length debut. Director Steve Reaume created the video “using his own algorithm that visually interprets the song mathematically. This results in a unique formation of blurred, grainy lines, slowly moving in kaleidoscope vision, triggering swift, paralyzing light as they begin to form more detailed objects ~ find yourself lost between their spiritual forces and a wicked video that matches the vibe perfectly.” (via Portals)
Doomsquad will be touring Eastern Canada with HSY this September/October, followed by a tour of the UK/EU in November.
